Lot 584

1840 N-8 R1 Large Date. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Frosty dark olive brown and chocolate with puffs of reddish chocolate toning on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth except for a trace of microscopic roughness at the throat and a few tiny specks of verdigris under STA in STATES. A horizontal nick or struck-through line under the E in ONE can help identify this cent. Looks mint state but there is a hint of friction on the top of the ear. Rare EDS, die state a. The fine die lines from the dentils at stars 10-13 are crisp. Our grade is net AU50. Not in the condition census for the variety but finest seen of the early die state in the Grellman census (PCGS # 1820) Value $400 - UP
