Lot 571

1830 N-4 R2 Large Letters G4. Rather glossy olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Many of the details are better than a G4 grade, but this cent has the look of a piece that has been flattened a bit. It would be unremarkable except that it was clearly double struck with extra stars on the obverse and clear doubling at the tip of the coronet. The undertype is slightly off center to K-10 while the second strike is centered on the planchet. I can not find any doubling on the reverse, and it may have been a brockage maker (struck against a second blank planchet after being struck normally but left in the coining chamber). The date is bold and most of the legends are clear. Value $100 - UP
