Lot 521

1853 C-1 R1. PCGS graded MS-63 Red & Brown. CAC. Very attractive lustrous light chocolate brown with generous traces of mint red on both sides and subtle overtones of light bluish steel in the fields. Satiny mint frost covers this piece and the only defects are a tiny nick on the jawline and a faint but relatively fresh hairline that breaks the toning in the field between the main curl and star 11. Otherwise this half cent is choice. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 1.0. The die line through the first T in STATES is clear. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. The attribution and Widok Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer: 1 in 64+, 3 in 65. (PCGS # 35328) Value $500 - UP
Ex Gene Braig 11/26/1995-The Widok Collection.
