1797 S-135 R3. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC. Frosty very faded mint red mellowing to light steel brown with golden red toning showing in the fields and protected areas, especially on the obverse. Nicely struck with just a few minor planchet chips high on the cheek. The notable marks are a speck of carbon on the right edge of the 7, another hidden between the E in LIBERTY and the dentils above, a couple more over the N in ONE, and a tiny scuff on the left foot of the M in AMERICA. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with a faint bulge at D ST and a single clashmark at S OF (the usual Nichols Hoard die state for the variety; see the 1796 S-119 for a description of the hoard). Graded MS62 and tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census, his photo #21151. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
