1795 C-2a R3 Punctuated Date, Lettered Edge VF25. Sharpness close to EF40 but there is an area of microscopic roughness on the upper right part of the reverse. The remainder of the planchet is smooth and the obverse is nearly flawless. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with darker olive brown in the area at the top of the wreath and ES-OF-A. There are a few minor planchet laminations on the reverse, mostly at UNITED and a tiny scratch over AT in STATES. MDS, Manley state 2.0, with swelling in the field before the face. The reverse of this piece is plated on page 20 in the second edition of Roger Cohen's book on half cents to illustrate a "defective planchet." Value $2,250 - UP
