1796 S-112 R4+ Draped Bust. PCGS graded AU-55. CAC. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with lighter brown and tan toning in protected areas, particularly on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth, void of any trace of roughness or verdigris. There are some light marks on the obverse including a hook-shaped nick or void on the cheek, a thin diagonal nick in the field close before the neck, and a spot of slightly darker steel brown toning on the left end of the eyebrow. Sharply struck E-MDS, Breen state II, with fine die clashmarks on the reverse and a faint die crack through the top of NIT plus a strong die line through ER in AMERICA. The repunching on the L & I in LIBERTY is sharp. Graded AU50 net EF45 and CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #20872. Bland says EF45 and CC#2. Our grade is EF45+. Comes with a very nice provenance that goes back more than 100 years. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 63.
