Lot 392

1851 N-45 R4+. PCGS graded MS-66 Brown. Lustrous light steel brown with faint hints of underlying very faded mint red in the fields and protected areas. The surfaces are satiny, the mint luster is unbroken, and the eye appeal of this cent is superb. No spots, stains, or significant signs of contact. The best identifying marks are a microscopic planchet flake in the field close under the tip of the nose and a few tiny ticks on the rim, including one left of star 4 and another over star 7. E-MDS, die state a, with a single die crack on the obverse from the coronet through star 5 to the dentils over star 4. Our grade is MS63+, finest known of the variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer. (PCGS # 406790) Value $1,250 - UP
