Lot 387

1848 N-40 R3 Repunched 18. PCGS graded MS-66 Brown. Very attractive lustrous bluish steel and light olive with peeps of faded mint red visible on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and nearly flawless, and this cent has great eye appeal. Just a few trivial marks including a small splash of reddish brown toning on the left side of star 5 and a dull nick on the truncation over the 1. E-MDS, die state a. The repunching on the 18 is clear and there is no rim cud break under the date. Graded MS60 by Noyes and tied for CC#2, his photo #30153. Our grade is MS62+, CC#4 for the variety in the Grellman census. A very nice cent. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer. (PCGS # 406544) Value $1,750 - UP
