Lot 382

1844 N-7 R2+. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with traces of old fingerprints on the obverse and peeps of underlying faded mint red remaining on the reverse. There are a few light nicks on the chin, neck, and in the field over the bust tip, plus a dull nick on the rim under the second 4. The reverse is choice. LDS, die state c, with a strong rim cud break at star 1. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census for the die variety. A very nice example of this tough die state, and it comes with a good provenance. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 3 finer: 2 in 64, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 397737) Value $1,200 - UP
