Lot 381

1843 N-2 R1 Petite Head Small Ltrs. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC. Very attractive lustrous medium steel brown and light olive with peeps of very faded mint red showing on the reverse. Just a few trivial ticks from choice including a tiny tick on the rim left of star 2, another on the upper point of that star, and a tiny planchet fissure on the rim right of star 10 (as struck). LDS, die state c (Newcomb's old #7). There is no trace of the die line from the base of the N in ONE and a clear rim cud break shows over UN with a tiny one over NI. A wonderful cent and a tough die state. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#2 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer in 65. (PCGS # 405836) Value $2,000 - UP
