1857 N-2 R1+ Small Date. PCGS graded MS-63 Red & Brown. Frosty mellowed mint red fading to steel brown with at least a third of the planchet showing mint color. The only marks are a tiny rim nick at star 13 and another at TA in STATES. MDS, die state a late. Some of the die lines over UNIT are still visible. Sharply struck except for minor weakness on the coronet over LI (which comes weakly struck on this variety, even on the finest known examples). Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#2 with several other examples in the Grellman census. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 3 in 64, 1 in 64+. (PCGS # 148731) Value $2,500 - UP
