Lot 283

1855 N-1 R3 Upright 55. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC. Choice lustrous light to medium steel brown. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless, and this cent has great eye appeal. The only marks, and they are trivial, are two tiny ticks on the cheek, a small spot of darker toning on the rim left of star 5, and a couple tiny nicks on the edge over star 5. M-LDS, die state c early. The obverse die has been freshly lapped to remove roughness in the fields, and microscopic die polishing lines show in those fields passing from NE to SW. The point to the left from the top of the lower loop of the 8 is gone. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64, and CC#3 for the variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Previously housed in an older green-label version PCGS holder graded MS65BN (PCGS label #01907.65/3098005). PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 3 in 65, 1 in 65+. (PCGS # 406145) Value $1,000 - UP
