Lot 273

1851 N-2 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. CAC. Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown on the highpoints with about 80% of the original mint color remaining visible. Just a few trivial marks including a speck of dark toning above the nostril, another hidden in the hair above the B in LIBERTY, one more nestled between the upper right points of star 10, and a final one on the leaf tip under the T in CENT. None of these spots is distracting and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. LDS, die state b late. The die line at the throat is gone and the top of the 8 is weak due to die wear. Very shallow low spots (caused by lubricant or debris on the dies) covers the neck and portions of the field below CENT (which is quite common for this die variety). A premium example of the variety. Our grade is MS65, tied for CC#1 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 3 finer: 1 in 65, 1 in 65+, 1 in 66RB. (PCGS # 406651) Value $1,750 - UP
