Lot 244

1836 N-6 R2. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with traces of faded mint red in protected areas, especially on the obverse. The left third of the reverse is a darker shade of chocolate brown. Just a few trivial marks including a light nick at the top of the nostril and a faint hairline scratch from the nose into the field under star 4. Very sharply struck E-MDS with the usual cud break above star 8 plus a fine die crack through the end of the wreath ribbon. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS65BN (PCGS label #1726.65/60110285 included, and it shows the Joshua and Ally Walsh provenance). Our grade is MS62+. A very nice example of the "Gobrecht Head" variety of 1836 cents (seen only on the N-6 & N-7 varieties). The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; none finer. (PCGS # 37126) Value $1,700 - UP
