Lot 240

1834 N-5 R5 Large 8 & Stars, Med Ltrs. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Frosty medium olive and steel. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has solid mint state eye appeal in spite of a hint of friction on the highest points of the hair. No spots or stains, only trivial contact marks in the obverse fields. The best identifying mark is a thin, light diagonal nick midway between the tip of the coronet and star 5. MDS with the usual soft strike above the head. Graded AU55 net EF45 and tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census, his photo #20731. The Noyes assessment seems quite harsh. Our grade is AU50+, close to AU55. A wonderful example of this tough "Redbook" variety. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65. (PCGS # 37042) Value $5,000 - UP
