Lot 21

1794 S-62 R4+. PCGS graded EF-45. CAC. Very attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Nicely struck and well centered on a very smooth planchet. Just a few trivial contact marks including a tiny chip or tick on the bust tip, a very light nick in the middle of the cheek, and a thin horizontal nick below the N in CENT. LDS, Breen state II, with a fully formed cud break along the rim below the cap. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Breen encyclopedia. Graded VF35 Choice and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #21635. Bland says VF35 and CC#3 in his census. Our grade is VF35 as well. Plated in the 1923 Chapman reference on the cents of 1794 and in the 2000 Breen encyclopedia to illustrate the die variety. A great cent that has outstanding eye appeal for the grade. And it comes with a superb provenance. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 45+, 1 in 63. (PCGS # 35648) Value $15,000 - UP
