Lot 1618

1801. PCGS graded MS-63+. CAC. PQ. Just graded for the first time. Lovely rich golden toning. Reflective surfaces on the reverse. A lovely coin that shows classic original soft yellow gold color, satiny luster and a solid strike. Only 44,344 struck, with 650 to 850 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report, this one is way out above the vast majority of those known in terms of quality and eye appeal.

In 1801 Thomas Jefferson took the helm of the United States as its 3rd President. The Louisiana Purchase came along in 1803, and Lewis and Clark had yet to set out to explore that massive addition to the territory of the United States. Here is a coin that witnessed it all, an historic reminder of times that were so different from today it would be hard to compare what daily life was like for a typical person then versus now. An important offering for the numismatist! Pop 1; 40 finer, 36 in 64, 1 in 64+, 3 in 65. (PCGS # 8564) Value $40,000 - 50,000

Realized $66,000
