Lot 1553

1912. NGC graded Proof 64. A bright and attractive Proof struck in the lemon yellow hue and finely textured sandblast finish used to produce these Proofs. This date is nearly as tough to find as the 1913 or 1915 quarter eagles from this series. Struck in limited numbers and a rarity on the market, any offering of a 1912 Proof quarter eagle is worth noting! This one offers near gem surfaces, rich yellow gold color, sparkling minute facets when examined and bold visual appeal. From an historic standpoint, 1912 is known for the Titanic disaster when the transatlantic ship crossing record was in site only to be upended by a poorly placed iceburg on that fateful April night. Although many passengers survived, others were not so lucky, and maritime travel has been more closely examined and regulated ever since. Here is a gorgeous reminder of that date, a coin which has survived not only for over 100 years, but in spectacular condition as well. Only 197 struck. Pop 5; 42 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7961) Value $12,000 - 13,000
