Lot 1533

1846-D. NGC graded MS-62. This coin was struck with the same reverse die as the D over near D variety, but is the usually later die state where the originally mispunched mintmark is barely visible above the 1 of the fraction in the denomination. Glittering reflectivity as expected for a mint state example of this early Dahlonega issue, and the surfaces are satin smooth and appealing. The usual light die crack extends from the rim through the E of AMERICA down to the lower portion of the eagle's wing below. Boldly struck and untoned. Some mint luster evident. A condition rarity at this stellar grade level, and worthy of a strong bid. Only 19,303 struck. Pop 3; 3 finer, 2 in 63, 1 in 64. (PCGS # 7742) Value $10,000 - UP
