Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 115

Lot 1531

1842-D. PCGS graded AU-58. Untoned and well struck. A few obverse marks here and there as expected from brief circulation. Only 4,643 struck, with under 100 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. The 18 show faint repunching low on the date, and there is a fine spindely die crack up from the base of the reverse splitting the denomination up to the eagle's claw tip. An exceptional example of this elusive Dahlonega issue, and one that will be a highlight in any advanced collection. Pop 6; tied for the finest examples graded at PCGS. (PCGS # 7725) Value $12,000 - UP
