Lot 144

1812 S-291 R2 Small Date. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Very attractive frosty medium chocolate brown and steel with some lighter brown toning in protected areas on the reverse. The fields and protected areas are covered with satiny mint luster and this cent has solid mint state eye appeal in spite of a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. Sharply struck and choice in every respect. MDS, Breen state III, with die cracks through 812 and all 13 of the stars. The best identifying mark is a tiny planchet clip at star 1 (as struck). A beautiful Classic Head cent. Not seen by Noyes or Bland. Our grade is AU58. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 1 in 63+, 1 in 64, 2 in 65. (PCGS # 36502) Value $15,000 - UP
