Lot 133

1810/09 S-281 R1 Overdate 10 over 09. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Lustrous golden tan and steel brown with traces of mint red on the obverse and 25% of the reverse showing mint color. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. There are two tiny spots of darker olive brown toning (not carbon) in the field above the front of the head. The only contact marks, and they are trivial, are a fine hairline scratch well hidden in the toning on the jawline over the throat and a tiny tick at the dentil tips below the 0 in the date. The reverse is flawless except for a tiny tick under the left side of the O in ONE. MDS with fine radial die flowlines in the fields and weakening dentils on both sides. The 10 over 09 overdate is clearly visible to the unaided eye. Graded MS65 Choice and CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #32116. Bland says MS64 and CC#1 as well. Our grade is MS64. A superior example of this popular overdate variety; a candidate for the very finest collection. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer and the only RB graded at PCGS. (PCGS # 36470) Value $100,000 - UP
