Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 115

Lot 1216

1878-S. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC. PQ. Mostly white with light golden toning around the periphery. This is a well struck, well preserved coin which will please any type collector. For some reason the San Francisco Mint went into high production mode in 1878 for these Trade dollars, striking over 4 million of them as this series was being discontinued for circulation. Here is one of the nicer examples to survive today. Records from the Orient note that these were in circulation there clear up into the 1950s, thus serving their intended purpose as well as anyone could have hoped for. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Pop 116; 59 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7048) Value $1,900 - 2,000
Ex Doug Bird Collection.

Realized $3,240
