Lot 1209

1874-CC. PCGS graded MS-64+. A lovely white coin with a touch of gold tone near the obverse rim, similar on the reverse where bright satin luster dominates, with some delicate toning on the extreme edge. The surfaces are excellent, with just a few light scattered marks seen when closely examined. Very close to MS-65, and a condition rarity at this grade level. Despite a generous mintage, there are only a half dozen PCGS coins at this grade or finer of this issue. Far and away the vast majority of these were shipped off to the Orient, as was intended with their issue, where they entered and stayed in circulation for many years, with reports of these being seen as late as the 1940s still in use in the Orient. This majestic coin clearly escaped that fate and has been carefully preserved since its time of issue. Pop 2; 4 finer, 3 in 65, 1 in 66. (PCGS # 7035) Value $20,000 - UP

Realized $24,600
