Lot 117

1804 Private Restrike in Copper. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. CAC. Frosty medium brown and light olive with red covering about 15% of the obverse and traces of faded red showing on the reverse. A small spot of darker toning on the rim right of the chin can help identify this cent. Late die state with both dies heavily lapped to remove rust leaving the central hair details missing or severely weakened. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees clockwise from a perfect head-to-foot die orientation. An attractive example of this non-mint product made circa 1860 using scrap mint dies, the obverse from 1803 S-261 and the reverse from 1820 N-12. Noyes photo #21912 (no grade assigned). Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 14, two dozen finer. (PCGS # 45344) Value $1,500 - UP
Ex "The Laguna Beach Collection" 3/1/1987-Douglas F. Bird Collection.
