Lot 115

1803 S-265 R4 Large Date and Fraction. PCGS graded EF-40. Glossy uniform light chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. Just a few minor marks including a small spot of dark olive brown toning (not carbon) in the field close before the nose, a tiny diagonal scratch close off the upper end of the hair ribbon, a diagonal hairline scratch in the field before the neck, and a tiny planchet chip in the field over the bust tip (as struck). Nicely struck MDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on both sides. Graded VF35 net VF30 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #20197 (and one of the two better ones in his census is in the ANS Collection). Not seen by Bland. Our grade is VF30. A very nice example of the Large Date/Large Fraction "Redbook" variety, just lightly worn. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 finer: 1 in 53, 1 in 58. (PCGS # 36413) Value $12,500 - UP
