Lot 1143

1844. PCGS graded MS-64. PQ. Boldly struck with nice prooflike fields on both sides. The toning is absolutely jaw dropping here, with vibrant iridescent blue mingled with intense russet and sunset hues to the center, the reverse well matched with similar and incredible vibrancy in the toning. Purchased as a proof by Doug Bird years ago due to the amazing reflectivity, but the obverse die appears different from that used to coin the few known Proofs of this year. In our opinion this is the finest and most beautiful Mint State example for this date. Likely to bring a rather stunning premium for the toning alone, and the quality of the surfaces only add to the mix. Sure looks MS-65 or better. Pop 14; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 6245) Value $3,500 - UP
Ex Doug Bird Collection.
