Lot 107

1803 S-250 R3. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Highly lustrous tan and light brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. Traces of mint red remain visible on the reverse and this cent has great eye appeal. This cent is absolutely choice except for a mint-made planchet delamination on the leaf under TE in STATES, and the flaw does catch your eye. The only other marks are trivial and include a minor spot over the 0 in the date, a tiny tick in the hair at the shoulder, and another small nick in the hair over the ribbon knot. MDS with very fine radial die flowlines in the fields on both sides. Graded MS60 sharpness net AU55 for the planchet flaw and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #28587. Bland says net AU55 as well and tied for CC#5. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65. (PCGS # 36365) Value $7,500 - UP
Ex Lee Numismatics International 1979-unknown-Superior 10/1990:3385-Douglas F. Bird Collection.
