1859. PCGS graded Proof 66 Cameo. Boldly struck and fully white with nice contrast between the mirror fields and frosted devices. At this lofty grade level, there are just a handful of coins that are technically any finer, and quite a few that fall well short of the quality seen here. This is a far scarcer type coin in gem grades than many realize, as the obverse has the stars surrounding Liberty, and in 1860 the obverse was changed to display the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA instead. Hence this is one of the scarcer type coins to find in proof. A wonderful example. Only 800 struck. Pop 6; 9 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 84748) Value $4,500 - 5,000
