Lot 1057

1859. PCGS graded Proof 67. CAC. PQ. Wonderful pastel toning on both sides, some marks on the holder. The colors range from light gold to a pale greenish gray through the stars, well matched and a trfile deeper on the reverse. The fields are pristine, and the devices show eye pleasing frost which is undisturbed by time or handling. It is important to note that the with stars obverse seen here (1840-1860) was changed starting in 1860 to include the legend instead, which keeps demand quite high on these 1859 and earlier proofs from type and date collectors. An incredible coin and technically tied for the finest graded by PCGS. Only 800 struck. Pop 1; 4 finer in 67 Cameo. (PCGS # 4748) Value $5,000 - UP
