Lot 1050

1830, 30 over 29. PCGS graded MS-66. JR-4, Rarity-2. Here is an extraordinary coin. The strike is sharp throughout and the surfaces are virtually pristine, with no signs of handling or cleaning. Lovely rainbow toning on the obverse while the reverse shows light golden toning favoring the rims. Close examination will find just a trace of the overdate feature, as the engraver did an excellent job masking the prior 1829 date on this unused 1829 obverse die before tapping in the 30 date over the old 29. One of the finer examples of this popular issue and worthy of a bold bid. Prooflike fields on both sides. Pop 2; 2 finer in 67. (PCGS # 4519) Value $20,000 - UP
