Lot 1025

1916. Doubled die obverse. PCGS graded AU-55. Lightly toned on both sides with typical delicate tawny gold over nickel-gray. The doubled die feature is most prominate on the date, but also on the Chief's chin, hair braid, ribbons and feathers in his headdress. Excellent surfaces and free of detracting specks or bagmarks that often distract the eye. A remarkable example of this issue which is seldom found nice, and almost never in high grade. Popular Red Book variety. This is one of the toughest issues to find of the entire Buffalo nickel collection, while the overdate of 1918/7-D is also hard to find, the overdate issue actually is far more available in high grades, even into mint state, than this present offering. Hence, if you are a Buffalo nickel specialist, do not overlook this opportunity to purchase the toughest issue in high grade! Pop 21; 14 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 3931) Value $19,000 - 20,000
