Lot 100

1802 S-242 R2. PCGS graded MS-64+ Brown. CAC. Highly lustrous golden tan and light steel brown with traces of mint red remaining visible on both sides, especially on the reverse. Mint frost covers this cent, even the highest points of the devices, and the eye appeal is superb. Essentially a flawless cent except for two small, inconspicuous scratches: one down from the right end of the foot of F in OF to the leaf tip below and another through the left foot of the second A in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is an absolute gem. Nicely struck LDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks on both sides and a crack through NIT to the dentils at both ends. Graded MS62 and CC#1 as the only true mint state example in the Noyes census, his photo #40008. Not seen by Bland. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer. (PCGS # 36332) Value $40,000 - UP
