Joe Kittinger Collection, Legendary Balloonist and Jumper: 20+ Signed Covers Including 2 Limited Edition Issues, 9 Signed Photos (Born 1928) First man to fly faster than the speed of sound in an historic leap of 103,000 feet by parachute from a balloon, a freefall that lasted 4:30. Four signed photos from this staggering accomplishment in 1960, only recently equaled in 2012 by Felix Baumgartner from the Red Bull Stratos, that Kittinger himself was the capsule communicator from Mission Control and mentor. There are four (4) signed photos from this historic jump. Incredibly Kittinger proved a record breaking balloonist aboard the Rosie O'Grady which flew from Caribou, ME to Montenotte, Italy in the world's first solo transatlantic balloon flight in September 1984. 1.) Limited Edition commemorative cover, No. 1118 of 2992. Flown during this famous flight, the cover features a color silk cachet depicting Kittinger's "Balloon of Peace" postmarked at Caribou and Montenotte. Housed in a presentation folder with 1½"x1" fragment from the balloon affixed to descriptive card opposite cover. 2.) Commemorative numbered edition cover exactly the same as the premium presented cover but without the folio and balloon fragment. 3.) 18 signed covers commemorating the historic balloon flight on a variety of covers, some very appealing. 4.) 5 signed photos/portraits of Kittenger.
