Russian Lacquer : Tsar Peter The Great, Emperor of All Russia; Two Outstanding Hand Gilt Russian Decoupage Boxes (1672-1725) It is impossible to study the history of Russia without a deep dive into Peter The Great, proclaimed "Emperor of all Russia" in 1721. His reforms as ruler heavily influenced by Western Europe, notably France even in dress (and no beards) and established St. Petersburg as the capitol, which it was until 1918.
Peter I is celebrated on Russian lacquer boxes with these two pieces boasting images of two of Peter's most commanding images. On the portrait, all the buttons and gorget have enhancements and the box where he is riding the horse, gold through out especially the horse, the ships and the buildings. Both 1¼ x 3 x 4" and in mint condition. Estimated Value $400 - UP
