Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). Sculpteur Et Modèle Admirant Une Tête Sculptée (Bloch 154) Ectching. Etching, 1933, on laid Montval paper with the Picasso watermark, signed in pencil at lower right, from the edition of 260, from La Suite Vollard, published by Vollard, Paris, 1939.
10½ x 7 5/8 inches (27 x194 mm.). Sheet: 17½ x 13½ inches (444 x 343 mm.).
Beautifully matted and framed in carved gilt wood to an overall size of 30½ x 27 inches (775 x 686 mm.). Mint condition.

The "Vollard Suite" is Picasso's most celebrated series of etchings. From 1930 to 1937, he produced a series of 100 prints for renowned art dealer Ambroise Vollard, devoting the work to five main themes: The Battle of Love, The Sculptor's Studio, Rembrandt, The Minotaur, and Portraits of Vollard. Vollard (1866-1939), who was the art dealer for Cézanne, Van Gogh, Renoir, Gauguin and Henri Matisse, in addition to Picasso, died in 1939; his death and the onset of World War II, delayed the release of the suite to the public until the 1950s.
