John Livingstone. Portraits: Man & Woman (Each Dated 1806). From 1806, two very handsome English portraits of a couple of some means painted over 210 years ago. Artist (John) Livingstone has signed his name on verso on the canvas. Most definitely, the portraits exhibit age and that is precisely why they are so appealing. Both canvases are quite stable, both exhibit crazing as one would expect or art this age, both have darkened over the years, likely a combination of age, dirt and smoke, and both have wonderful matching plank frames with incised details that by every measure appear to be original. An exceptional pair for people who enjoy decorating with early 19th artwork or for set and stage design. Each 24 x 21" and in very fine condition. We suggest replacing wires prior to hanging.
