Lot 47

1819 N-2 R1 Large Date AU50. Close to mint state with just a hint of friction on the highest points of the portrait, but this cent was cleaned long ago. Retoned glossy bluish steel and chocolate with underlying reddish steel brown and rose in some of the protected areas on the obverse. The notable marks are a light diagonal scratch under star 7, and a small spot of very fine carbon in the field right of the inner curl, and a nick-like planchet chip at the left foot of the E in CENT (as struck). The reverse of this cent has the look of a choice mint state piece. Very early die state with hard, reflective fields on both sides. The undertype 8 (or inverted 9) under the 9 is sharp and the repunching on the 8 is clear. A neat die state. Estimate Value $700 - UP
Ex Pierre Fricke 10/28/2012-The Westwood Collection.
