Lot 22

1817 N-8 R2 NGC graded AU55. Glossy dark chocolate and olive brown with traces of reddish steel brown faded down from mint color in protected areas on the reverse. The only marks are a few tiny ticks on the tip of the bust and a very small planchet lamination void on the rim just right of the second S in STATES (as struck). The toning is a bit dark but the luster is consistent with what you expect to see on a nice mint state coin. LDS with a full "Mouse" break reaching up to the left from the top of the head under star 8. This is the so-called "Finger Mouse" since it is shaped more like a finger than a rodent, but the rodent name sticks since it is located in the same place as the other "Mouse" breaks seen on 1817 cents. The shallow depression that forms in the field under star 5 as the die wears is obvious. Our grade is EF45+. Estimate Value $900 - UP
