Lot 15

1817 N-4 R3+ PCGS graded AU53. Steel brown and olive. Frost covers the protected areas and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. However a strong glass reveals traces of extremely faint roughness in the fields and protected areas (the roughness so minor that PCGS elected to ignore it). Just a few trivial marks including a shallow planchet flake in the field before the lips (as struck) and a small pit at a dentil tip under the right foot of the first 1 in the date. MDS with a die crack through the date extending well beyond both sides of the date, and there is a radial die crack branching down to the dentils under the right side of star 1. What might look like a small cud break in the dentils at star 1 is a minor planchet lamination that folded over. Quite deceptive. Our grade is net VF35+. Noyes photo #33344. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $650 - UP
