Lot 115

1825 N-9 R2 NGC graded MS61 Brown. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with lustrous lighter brown and tan in protected areas on both sides. The only marks are a spot of slightly darker toning (not carbon) in the field off the upper right point of star 2 and a couple tiny ticks in the field close over the head below the left point of star 8. MDS with an extremely faint die crack from the dentils over star 3 to the forelock and microscopic die rust on the portrait. An attractive, sharply struck cent, and it comes with a nice provenance. Looks mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. This is the plate coin for the die variety in John Wright's reference on the cents of 1816-1839. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Rasmussen provenance are noted on the NGC label. Estimate Value $2,400 - UP
