Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 112

Lot 1140

1840-D. PCGS graded AU-50. A decent strike from a late die state, exhibiting clearly defined die cracks on both sides. Very interesting and extremely rare in grades above very fine. Lightly toned. Only 3,532 struck, with under 100 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. This one offers both attractive surfaces and great color, with the added bonus of radial die cracks on the reverse, the obverse with a bisecting crack. Clearly neither die lasted much longer after striking this coin. Pop 10; 12 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7719) Estimate Value $4,500 - UP

Realized $13,800
