Apollo 11: Flown Thermal Mylar Film Coating, "Kapton Foil," Six (6) Mounted Pieces on Acrylic Squares. Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Man's First Landing on the Moon, Apollo 11 Flown Thermal Mylar Film Coating "Kapton" Foil; Six (6) Mounted Pieces on Acrylic Squares. Four (4) one inch square Kapton foil segments (officially GT-131 Thermal Control Coating Laminate) mounted on acrylic (in order to view both sides) are from the Apollo 11 Command Module, "Columbia" which in 1969 carried Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to the moon (currently on a two year tour of American cities) The mylar film coating provided thermal protection for the Command Module. Once returned to Earth, thermal coating was removed from the spacecraft and very often used for presentations. These mounted Kapton foils squares were very commonly found in NASA commemmoratives, whether on certificates or more often the case, in lucite paper weights and presentations. These squares come with exceptional provenance and COA and have become scarce. Estimate Value $900 - UP
