[Stern Gang] Rare Broadside in English: "Which Way Out--Surrender and Death or Resistance and Freedom?". Broadside, 10½ x 7¾", signed in print, "Fighters for Freedom of Israel (Stern Group)," distributed by American Friends of Fighters for Freedom of Israel, Inc., New York [mid 1940s]. "Duly authorized to collect funds for the Palestine Resistance Movement." Invoking the the fighters who fell in the Warsaw and Vilna Ghettos, and proclaiming, "What happened in the Warsaw and Vilna Ghettos is happening in Jerusalem today." The group, also know as Lehi, was founded in 1940 by Avraham Stern (1907-42) and carried out attacks on British personnel, airfields, and railway yards in Palestine. The group was never supported by the moderate leaders of the Jewish community and after the creation of the State of Israel, the group was suppressed and some of its units were incorporated into the Israeli defense forces.
