Collection of Judaica -- From or Related to Palestine, the Holocaust, and Israel. Group of items from a collection of Judaica acquired by the consignor over a period of 40 years. Items in this lot include:
A 1943 letter in Hebrew, TLS from Rabbanit Sarah Herzog, to Henrietta Szold, initialed "H.S" at upper right about "a special asylum for 35 kids in order to assist the refugee kid arrived via Teheran." Israel Zangwill (British author and Zionist) TNS, n.d.; 4 Stateless Persons' Identity Cards, 1949; Special Identity Card/Passport issued by the Polish Republic to Jewish Emigrants to Israel 1950; 1938 receipts (2) for items sold by a jeweler and goldsmith to a Jewish couple--one with swastika & eagle handstamp; 2 Health Cards (1934) for a German Jew emigrating to Palestine; small photos of inmates at liberation of Dachau and Büchenwald, + potato ration card; postcard from Litzmannstadt Ghetto trying to warn family about a forthcoming transport from Frankfurt--it was rejected by censor; sworn handwritten statement, 4 pp, by Franz Muller, in 1945 re the horrendous treatment at Buchenwald, w/translation; a 2nd sworn, handwritten statement by Leo Blindner in 1945 about poisoning, drowning, shooting, and refusal of medical treatment of inmates at Büchenwald and another small camp--both reports give the names of those responsible for the torture and murder; a 1947 plea of a survivor of the camps, presently in a refugee camp for 21 months, to the UN Secretary General, begging to be allowed to go to Palestine; 1943 Lion Feuchtwanger (German-Jewish author) TLS re his work; 1939 booklet The Jewish People and Palestine by Chaim Weizmann, 1939, 2nd ed.; 2 Fiorello La Guardia typed letters signed, 1938 and 1939, in support of United Jewish Appeal for refugees; 1979 ALS by Nazi hunter Erich Erdstein, mentions Borman, Mengele, etc.; -Simon Wiesenthal small SP; good content 1956 ALS by Thomas Dodd, Chief Trial Assistant to Robert H. Jackson at Nuremberg. Also included are letters by: Bartley Crum, UN delegate (1946--"the western democracies must atone for their moral indifference to the mass slaughter of European Jewry by Hitler"); K. Knöpfmacher (1939); Henry Morgenthau, Jr. (1947); Rabbi Stephen S. Wise (1941); VP Alben W. Barkley (1949); Loiuis Bromfield (1948); Congressman Raymond J. McGrath (1989); author Harry Golden (1971), and others.
