Wright, Frank Lloyd -- Letter Regarding Drawings For Arizona State University's Grady Gammage Auditorium (1867-1959) American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, who believed in designing structures in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. He designed over 1,000 structures, over half of which were built. Typed letter signed "Frank Lloyd Wright," one page, 8 ½ x 11", on Taliesin West/ Paradise Valley Arizona stationery, Mar. 7, 1957. To Dr. Henry Grady Gammage (1892-1959), who was president of Arizona State University from 1933 to 1959. Wright writes: "So sorry to hear you haven't felt too well my dear friend. I will be in Arizona next week and will come to the campus to discuss final drawings. I would also like to take you to lunch if you feel well enough by then? Plenty of rest I insist!…" Wright refers to drawings for the auditorium which he had been commissioned to build for ASU and which would be named Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium. Both Gammage and Wright passed away in 1959, leaving Wright's protégé, William Wesley Peters, to finish the project. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Contemporary ink smudge in last name, two small soiled spots, and light creasing to right side of letterhead.
