Mercury 7 Astronauts: Deke Slayton's Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Badge, Harris County Texas 10/15/1963 with ID in Original Wallet (1924-1993) Deke Slayton was an American World War II pilot, aeronautical engineer, and test pilot who was selected as one of the original NASA Mercury Seven astronauts. He became NASA's first Chief of the Astronaut Office and Director of Flight Crew Operations, and was responsible for NASA crew assignments. After years of being sidelined due to health, he finally flew on the Apollo-Soyuz Mission. Offered is an extremely unique and personal item. Offered is Deke Slayton's Honorary Deputy Sheriff Mounted Posse police badge in original leather wallet with ID card issued by Sheriff J.B. Kline, State of Texas, County of Galveston. This was presented to Slayton on October 15th, 1963 with his name D.K. Slayton stamped into badge. Most certainly rare and unique. Estimate Value $600 - UP
