Lot 857

1820, 20 over 19. Curl base 2. PCGS graded MS-63. O-102. This is an elegant example of this intriguing overdate. The engraver had a most difficult time hiding the 1 beneath the 2, and even more trouble with the obvious 9 below the 0! One has to wonder why they bothered updating the die to reflect the current year when in other instances in this era we know that coins were struck using dies dated a year or two prior to the current year for coinage. Nevertheless, this creates a wonderful opportunity to collect these handsome coins, especially when found at the Choice grade level. Here is a memorable offering for the date, or overdate specialist! Don't miss out. Nicely toned and well struck. Pop 9; 5 finer, 1 in 63+, 3 in 64, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 6126) Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000
