Historic Justh & Hunter Gold Ingot 30.26 oz bar from the S. S. Central America (1857). 838 Fine, $524.19 face. A highly desirable compact "candy bar" size ingot with markings on top and numbered 4271. Bias-cut assayer's "bites" in upper left corner on top and on reverse upper right corner with 71 incuse. Plated in Bowers A California Gold Rush History, featuring the treasure from the S.S. Central America, page 757, Mold J & H S.F. -04.

Justh & Hunter were located at 188 Montgomery Street 2d door South of Jackson Street, San Francisco. Justh was once an assayer at the U.S. mint in San Francisco. A highly sought-after example of California gold from the Gold Rush days. Estimate Value $70,000 - 80,000
