Lot 1238
1850. NGC graded MS-62. Boldly struck and shimmering with brilliant golden luster. Scattered faint hairlines, none worthy of distraction. A wonderful exmple for the first year of issue of the double eagle. Close scrutiny will find a few light handling marks in the fields, but Liberty's face is particularly clean and attractive. This is the first year these were struck for circulation, and while a few were saved, clearly not too many given the tiny numbers reported next. Here is one of the nicer examples known today.
